Maraaudit

Maraaudit is a holistic auditing framework designed to assess the governance, risk management, and sustainability performance of organizations and projects. It emphasizes an integrated view that combines traditional audit techniques with system-wide analysis, stakeholder input, and data-driven risk assessment to produce a comprehensive evaluation.

The term was coined in 2020 by researchers at the Global Accountability Forum during a workshop on modern audit practices. Since then, Maraaudit has appeared in academic articles and practitioner guides as a flexible method for cross-domain evaluation, adaptable to corporate, public sector, and nonprofit contexts.

Core concepts and components of Maraaudit include five modules: compliance and controls, transparency and traceability, risk and resilience, sustainability and social impact, and stakeholder engagement and remediation. Each module relies on a mix of quantitative metrics and qualitative judgment, drawing on sources such as financial records, process logs, environmental data, and interviews with stakeholders. The framework stresses triangulation of evidence and independent validation to support credible findings and actionable recommendations.

Process and practice typically follow a staged approach: scoping and planning, data collection and evidence gathering, analysis and synthesis, reporting with recommendations, and follow-up verification. Tools associated with Maraaudit often include risk scoring matrices, control testing procedures, process mapping, and narrative reporting to convey context and implications.

Applications and limitations: Maraaudit is used in corporate governance assessments, public procurement audits, development projects, and nonprofit accountability reviews. Limitations can include resource intensity, data availability, and potential biases in model-driven components; effective use requires skilled practitioners, clear governance buy-in, and ongoing remediation efforts.
