Magáncímkék, also known as private or personal codes, refer to unique alphanumeric identifiers used in Hungarian postal and address systems to designate specific buildings or sections within larger structures. These codes are assigned by the Hungarian postal service (Magyar Posta) to facilitate precise mail delivery, particularly in densely populated urban areas or large residential complexes where traditional street addresses may be insufficient.

The format of a magáncímke typically consists of a combination of letters and numbers, often prefixed with a slash (e.g., /123 or /ABC). These codes are assigned based on the building’s internal layout, such as apartment numbers, floor levels, or other distinguishing features. While not universally required, they are commonly used in cities like Budapest, where high-rise buildings and shared housing arrangements necessitate more detailed addressing.

Magáncímkék are distinct from postal codes (postal zip codes) in Hungary, which are numerical identifiers used for sorting mail at a regional or district level. Unlike postal codes, magáncímkék are not standardized across the country and are determined locally by postal authorities. They are primarily used for internal mail routing within a building or complex, ensuring that letters and packages reach the correct recipient even when multiple units share the same street address.

The use of magáncímkék helps reduce errors in mail delivery, particularly in areas with high population density or complex address structures.
