Lülijalgsete

Lülijalgsete, also known as *Lilium martagon* or Turk’s cap lily, is a perennial flowering plant native to temperate regions of Europe and Asia. It belongs to the *Lilium* genus within the family Liliaceae and is widely recognized for its distinctive, nodding, turban-shaped flowers. The plant typically grows to a height of 60 to 120 centimeters, with broad, lance-shaped leaves that emerge from a bulbous underground structure.

The flowers of *Lilium martagon* bloom in late spring to early summer, often appearing in clusters of six to twelve. Each flower features six petals, with the outer ones typically darker and more pronounced than the inner ones, creating a striking, layered appearance. The coloration varies but commonly includes shades of purple, pink, white, or yellow, sometimes with darker veining. The bulb is relatively low-maintenance, though it benefits from occasional division to prevent overcrowding. It is also resistant to many common plant diseases, though it can be susceptible to bulb rot if planted in poorly drained soil.

Beyond its ornamental value, *Lilium martagon* has historical and cultural significance in European folklore, often associated with protection against evil spirits. Its bulbs were traditionally used in herbal medicine, though modern applications are limited.
