Lökocytantal

Lökocytantal, often referred to as white blood cell count, is a laboratory test that measures the number of leukocytes, or white blood cells, in a person's blood. White blood cells are a crucial part of the immune system, playing a vital role in defending the body against infection and disease.

The lökocytantal is typically determined as part of a complete blood count (CBC). Normal ranges for white blood cell counts can vary slightly between laboratories, but generally fall between 4,000 and 11,000 cells per microliter of blood. A count that is significantly higher than normal, known as leukocytosis, can indicate the presence of an infection, inflammation, or other medical conditions such as leukemia. Conversely, a count that is lower than normal, called leukopenia, may suggest that the body's immune system is compromised, potentially due to viral infections, certain medications, or bone marrow disorders.

The differential white blood cell count, which is often performed in conjunction with the total lökocytantal, breaks down the number of each specific type of white blood cell, such as neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils. This further breakdown can provide more specific clues about the underlying cause of an abnormal white blood cell count. Doctors use the lökocytantal as a diagnostic tool to assess a patient's overall health and to help identify or monitor various medical conditions.
