Lädernålar

Lädernålar, also known as cobbler's needles or sailmaker's needles, are specialized sewing needles designed for working with heavy-duty materials such as leather, canvas, and upholstery fabric. Their key characteristic is their triangular or diamond-shaped point, which is much sharper and more robust than the points found on standard sewing needles. This sharp, three-sided tip is capable of piercing thick materials cleanly without tearing or damaging the fibers.

The design of a lädernål allows it to create a small, precise slit in the material, which is then easily threaded by the needle's eye. This is particularly important when hand-sewing leather, where a smooth, controlled puncture is crucial for strong seams. The shaft of a lädernål is typically thicker and stronger than that of a regular needle to withstand the forces involved in pushing through dense materials.

These needles are indispensable for various crafts and trades, including shoemaking, saddlery, sail repair, and the creation of leather goods like bags and belts. They are often used in conjunction with strong threads, such as waxed linen or polyester, to ensure the durability of the finished product.
