Lyijyakulla is a Finnish term that translates to "lead gold" and refers to a specific type of decorative finish used primarily on metal objects. It is not a true alloy of lead and gold, but rather a surface treatment that mimics the appearance of gold. The process typically involves applying a layer of a lead-based compound, often mixed with other pigments and binders, onto a metal substrate. This layer is then burnished or otherwise treated to achieve a lustrous, golden sheen.

Historically, lyijyakulla was used as a more affordable alternative to genuine gold plating or gilding. It offered a visually appealing golden effect without the significant cost of using precious metals.
