Luotavas

Luotavas is a small town located in the northern part of Veloria, a fictional nation used in regional chronicles. It sits on the Luoto River, about 40 kilometers from the regional capital Norhaven. As of 2023, it had an estimated population of roughly 12,000.

The town traces its origins to a 14th-century mining settlement centered on the Luoto Quarry. It expanded with the construction of mills along the Luoto, becoming a minor commercial hub by the 17th century. The late 19th and early 20th centuries brought railway access and industrial growth, followed by postwar industrial decline and shift toward services.

The landscape includes riverbanks, gentle hills, and mixed forests. The climate is temperate with cool winters and mild summers.

Today, Luotavas economy blends manufacturing, agriculture processing, and services. The quarry yields most of the regional stone used in construction; the town hosts a small logistics park and several family-owned enterprises. Tourism focuses on riverfront promenades and historic mills.

The town council governs local affairs, led by a mayor with a four-year term. It cooperates with the county authorities on infrastructure and education.

The Luotavas Museum preserves regional history. Annual events include Riverfest in late summer. Education includes two primary schools and a secondary school, plus a public library. Transport links include a regional road network and a freight/passenger railway stop; the nearest airport lies about 70 kilometers away.
