Luftdrevne

Luftdrevne refers to devices and systems powered by compressed air, a form of pneumatics. In Danish, luft means air and drevne means driven or powered, so the term describes components powered by air pressure rather than electricity, hydraulics, or combustion. Pneumatic systems store energy as compressed air in tanks and release it through valves to operate actuators.

A typical luftdreven system consists of a compressor, a pressure regulator, storage receiver, distribution piping, control valves, and actuators such as pneumatic cylinders or air motors. The energy conversion occurs when compressed air expands in a cylinder to create linear motion, or in a rotary air motor to produce rotation. Exhaust air is vented to atmosphere through mufflers or silencers.

Common forms include pneumatic cylinders for linear actuation, and air motors for rotary motion. Smaller tools such as air drills, impact wrenches, grippers, and clamping devices are driven by air in industrial settings.

Advantages include simplicity, robustness, absence of open flames, and functional reliability in dirty or wet environments. Pneumatic systems offer fast response, easy control with simple valves, and safe operation in hazardous areas. Limitations include relatively low energy density leading to continuous compressor operation for high power, energy losses from leaks, and less precise speed control compared with electric drives.

Luftdrevne is widely used in manufacturing, automation, packaging, automotive, and robotics, where a clean, durable, and safe power source is valuable. It forms a foundational technology within the broader field of pneumatics and is frequently contrasted with hydraulic and electric drives.
