Lovrijenac

Lovrijenac, also known as the St. Lawrence Fortress, is a medieval fortress perched on a steep cliff outside Dubrovnik’s western wall, overlooking the Adriatic Sea. It stands near the entrance to the old town, close to Pile Gate, and serves as a dramatic counterpart to the city’s fortifications. The name derives from its dedication to Saint Lawrence.

The fortress is generally dated to the 14th century and was built by the Republic of Ragusa

Lovrijenac has become a symbol of Dubrovnik’s independence and resilience and is commonly called Dubrovnik’s Gibraltar.

Access is via a short walk from the Old Town or a walkable path from nearby hills.
