Lirav

Lirav is a fictional coastal city-state in the fantasy setting known as the Valoran Shallows. It sits at the mouth of the Sable River, sheltered by limestone cliffs and dominated by a busy harbor district. The harbor has long connected inland traders with distant markets, making Lirav a cosmopolitan entrepôt.

The name Lirav is of uncertain origin in Valorian lore, often associated with lyre or song, reflecting its historical role in music and performance. Locals call it "the harbor of songs" in seasonal festivals.

Lirav arose as a trading post during the early migration era and gradually formed a guild-led republic. It survived sieges, prospered on spice, textile, and timber trade, and later established ties with inland kingdoms and far ports. In the current setting it maintains semi-democratic institutions and a tradition of civic patronage.

Lirav is governed by a Council of Guildmasters, elected from major crafts and trade guilds, and led by a Governor. The Assembly of Vox represents guild interests in lawmaking. The judiciary operates independently under written codes and customary law.

The economy centers on the port, shipyards, fisheries, and workshops for textiles and glass. Lirav hosts the Tidefall Festival, featuring street performances and markets, and supports harbor-side academies that study navigation, trade law, and the arts.

The city supports roughly 150,000 residents, mainly humans with minority elf and dwarf communities. Notable landmarks include the Pearl Gate, the Lighthouse of Neris, and the Grand Bazaar.
