Likkend

Likkend is a term originating from the Dutch language, literally translating to "licking." In its most common usage, it refers to the act of an animal, particularly a dog, licking a person or another animal. This behavior can stem from various motivations, including affection, social grooming, communication, or seeking attention. Dogs may lick their owners as a sign of submission, to solicit food, or simply to express pleasure and bonding. Similarly, animals may lick each other as part of their social hierarchy or to maintain cleanliness.

The term can also be used metaphorically in Dutch to describe a situation where someone is receiving excessive praise or flattery, often in a sycophantic manner. In this context, "likkend" implies an insincere or overly eager attempt to gain favor. Outside of its direct linguistic roots, the term "likkend" is not widely recognized or used in English-speaking contexts, remaining primarily within the Dutch linguistic sphere.
