Leheväetised

Leheväetised, also known as foliar fertilizers, are liquid or soluble nutrient solutions applied directly to plant leaves. This method of fertilization allows plants to absorb nutrients through their foliage, offering a rapid and efficient way to correct deficiencies or provide a quick boost. Unlike soil-applied fertilizers, which must be taken up by roots and then transported throughout the plant, leheväetised bypass the soil and are absorbed directly by the stomata and epidermal cells of the leaves.

The effectiveness of leheväetised depends on several factors, including the type of nutrient, the formulation of the fertilizer, the plant species, and environmental conditions. Nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, iron, and manganese are commonly applied as leheväetised. They are particularly useful for addressing micronutrient deficiencies, which can be difficult to correct through soil application due to factors like high soil pH or nutrient lockout.

Leheväetised are often used in conjunction with traditional soil fertilization programs. They can supplement soil nutrients during critical growth stages, such as flowering or fruiting, or when soil conditions are unfavorable for root uptake. Application is typically done using sprayers, ensuring thorough coverage of the leaf surfaces. It is important to follow recommended application rates and timings to avoid leaf burn or other adverse effects. The absorption rate is generally higher under warm, humid conditions when stomata are open.
