Legekontroll is a medical examination conducted by a physician to assess an individual's health status or functional capacity for a specific task or activity. The term is commonly used in Norwegian contexts to describe targeted health assessments rather than routine checkups.

Common purposes include pre-employment assessments, determining fitness to drive for cars, buses, and trucks, participation in organized sports with medical clearance requirements, return-to-work evaluations after illness or injury, and investigations required by insurers or public authorities. A legekontroll usually begins with a medical history and a physical examination. Depending on purpose, the clinician may perform measurements of vital signs, vision and hearing testing, cardiovascular screening (blood pressure, and sometimes ECG), and selected laboratory tests. The extent of testing is tailored to the task, legal or regulatory requirements, and the individual’s health status. The physician explains findings and, if necessary, provides recommendations for treatment, rehabilitation, or follow-up.

Results are documented in the medical record and shared with relevant parties only with informed consent and in accordance with privacy regulations.
