Lavintensitetstrening, often abbreviated as LIT, refers to physical activity performed at a low to moderate exertion level. This type of training is characterized by a heart rate that is typically maintained within 50-70% of an individual's maximum heart rate. The perceived exertion is generally low, meaning individuals can often hold a conversation comfortably while engaging in LIT.

The primary energy system utilized during low-intensity training is the aerobic system. This means that the body primarily relies on oxygen to break down carbohydrates and fats for fuel, leading to efficient fat metabolism. Consequently, LIT is often associated with improved cardiovascular health, increased endurance, and effective weight management, particularly in burning fat.

Common examples of low-intensity training include brisk walking, cycling at a relaxed pace, swimming, and light jogging. These activities are accessible to a wide range of fitness levels, making them suitable for beginners, older adults, or individuals recovering from injuries. The lower impact nature of many LIT activities also reduces the risk of musculoskeletal strain and injury compared to high-intensity exercise.

While offering significant benefits, LIT is not designed to maximize anaerobic capacity or build significant muscle mass as quickly as high-intensity training.
