Lagerplassering

Lagerplassering refers to the plan and management of storage locations within a warehouse, aiming to house goods efficiently. It involves deciding where items are stored, how space is allocated, and how locations are used to maximize capacity, reduce movement, and improve inventory accuracy and throughput.

There are different approaches to lagerplassering. Fixed (fast) plassering assigns each SKU a designated location, promoting stability and simple counting. Random or dynamic plassering assigns locations at put-away based on availability, which can improve space utilization. High-turnover items are often placed near receiving and shipping areas, while slower movers may be located further away.

Key factors influencing lagerplassering include turnover rate (ABC analysis), item size and weight, packaging and handling requirements, dimensions and stacking constraints, compatibility with temperature control or hazard classifications, and safety considerations. Layout constraints, equipment, and the need for easy access to critical items also play a role.

Tools and methods used in lagerplassering include Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) for location management, replenishment, and picking optimization. Techniques such as ABC analysis, slotting optimization, and regular slotting projects help determine ideal locations. Barcodes or RFID are commonly used to track locations and movements.

Process and implementation typically involve data collection on items and their handling, defining storage zones and rules, assigning storage locations, and implementing changes. Ongoing monitoring, cycle counting, and periodic audits help maintain accuracy. Pilot tests are often conducted before a full rollout, with adjustments based on performance data.

Benefits of effective lagerplassering include reduced picker travel, faster order fulfillment, and better space utilization. Challenges can arise from poor data quality, frequent changes in inventory, seasonal demand shifts, and maintaining consistent accuracy in a dynamic warehouse environment.
