Laajennusliitännän, often translated as expansion interface or extension connector, refers to a standardized port or slot on a computer or other electronic device that allows for the connection of additional hardware components. These components, known as expansion cards or add-in cards, expand the functionality of the base device. Examples of expansion cards include graphics cards for enhanced visual processing, sound cards for improved audio capabilities, network interface cards for internet connectivity, and storage controllers for managing hard drives.

The concept of expansion interfaces has been crucial to the evolution of personal computing. Early personal computers often featured a limited set of built-in peripherals. Expansion slots provided a modular way for users to upgrade and customize their systems according to their specific needs and budget.
