LFM is an acronym that can refer to several terms depending on the context. The two most common meanings are described below.

Looking for more. In online gaming, chat rooms, and community forums, LFM stands for “Looking For More.” It is used to indicate that a player or group is seeking additional participants to form a party, raid, dungeon run, or competitive match. Messages may specify the number of players needed, required roles or classes, playstyle preferences, and time availability. LFM is often paired with other shorthand such as “LFG” (Looking For Group) or “LFM [slot count]” to convey recruitment details quickly.

Linear frequency modulation. In engineering, radar, sonar, and communications, LFM denotes linear frequency modulation, a method in which the instantaneous frequency of a carrier signal changes linearly over time. LFM signals, also known as chirps, are used to achieve high range resolution and effective pulse compression. They are common in signal processing, waveform design, and defense-related applications, where a predictable frequency sweep aids in detecting targets and distinguishing signals from noise.

Context and ambiguity. Because LFM spans different domains, its meaning is determined by the surrounding context. In gaming communities, it refers to recruitment for group activities; in technical and engineering settings, it refers to a modulation technique. Other, less common uses may exist as acronyms are adopted by organizations, products, or projects.
