Kölyökmegszületés, meaning puppy birth, is the process by which a female dog, known as a bitch, gives birth to her litter of puppies. This natural biological event is the culmination of a gestation period that typically lasts around 63 days from the date of ovulation.

Preparation for kölyökmegszületés often involves the bitch exhibiting behavioral changes in the days leading up to labor. She may become restless, pant excessively, seek a quiet and secluded place for her whelping box, and lose her appetite. Her body temperature may also drop slightly a day or two before birth.
