Käsitõstukeid

Käsitõstukeid, meaning hand pallet trucks in Estonian, are simple mechanical devices used for lifting and moving pallets. They are a fundamental piece of equipment in warehouses, distribution centers, and retail environments for internal logistics. A käsitõstuk typically consists of a hydraulic pump, a lifting mechanism, and a pair of forks that slide under a pallet.

The operation of a käsitõstuk is straightforward. The forks are lowered to the ground and then slid under the pallet. A handle is then pumped up and down, which activates the hydraulic system, raising the forks and the pallet off the ground. Once lifted to the desired height, the pallet can be moved by pushing or pulling the truck. Lowering the pallet is achieved by a release valve, usually controlled by the same handle.

There are several types of käsitõstukeid. Standard models are the most common, suitable for general use. There are also specialized versions, such as low-profile trucks for handling pallets with minimal clearance, heavy-duty trucks for heavier loads, and stainless steel or galvanized versions for use in corrosive environments like food processing plants or cold storage. Some käsitõstukeid also feature integrated scales for weighing loads.

While simple, käsitõstukeid offer significant advantages. They are cost-effective to purchase and maintain, require no external power source, and are relatively easy to operate and maneuver, especially in tight spaces. Their portability and versatility make them indispensable for many material handling tasks. Regular maintenance, such as checking hydraulic fluid levels and inspecting for wear and tear, ensures their safe and efficient operation.
