Käiguvahetuslüliti

Käiguvahetuslüliti, often translated as gear shift switch or simply a shift switch, is an electrical component found in many vehicles. Its primary function is to inform the vehicle's control systems about the current position of the gear selector. This information is crucial for various automated functions.

The käiguvahetuslüliti typically contains a series of electrical contacts that close or open depending on the position of the gear lever. These positions usually include Park (P), Reverse (R), Neutral (N), Drive (D), and sometimes lower gears like L1 or L2. When the driver moves the gear selector, the switch registers the new position and sends a corresponding electrical signal to the vehicle's computer.

This signal enables several important features. For instance, it allows the engine to start only when the transmission is in Park or Neutral. It also informs the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and traction control system about the selected gear, allowing them to adjust their operation accordingly. In automatic transmissions, the signal from the käiguvahetuslüliti is fundamental for the transmission's own logic to engage the appropriate gears for forward or reverse motion. Issues with the käiguvahetuslüliti can lead to warning lights on the dashboard, inability to start the engine, or improper shifting behavior.
