Kustannusnopeudet is a Finnish term used to describe the rate at which costs change as a function of another variable, typically time or production quantity. The concept captures how quickly total costs accumulate or decline, rather than the absolute level of costs at a given point.

Kustannusnopeudet can be formally defined as the derivative of the cost function C with respect to the chosen variable, for example v(t) = dC/dt when time is the driver, or v(q) = dC/dq when output is the driver. In practice, these rates indicate the speed of cost growth or reduction and are central to cost forecasting, budgeting, and project planning. A higher kustannusnopeus signals rapid changes in spending, while a low or negative rate can indicate stabilization or cost savings.

In continuous models, kustannusnopeudet are derived from the appropriate cost function.
