Kunststoffmallets

Kunststoffmallets, or plastic mallets, are a type of hammer-like striking tool with a head made primarily from plastic materials. They are designed to transfer blows to workpieces with reduced risk of surface damage compared with metal hammers. The head is typically constructed from polymers such as polypropylene, high-density polyethylene, nylon, or acetal, and can be solid or hollow. Some models feature a soft-faced (molded rubber or urethane) surface for gentler work, while others have a harder plastic face for more control without marring.

The handle may be wood, plastic, or composite, and is often shaped for a comfortable grip. Weights generally range from about 0.5 to 1.5 ounces (15 to 45 grams) for small jewelry or model-making mallets, up to several ounces for carpentry tasks.

Kunststoffmallets are widely used in woodworking to shape and align joints, seat dowels, and strike chisels without denting faces or planks. They are also used in metalworking where a non-marring hit is desirable, in sculpture, glasswork, and tile setting. They offer advantages such as non-marring contact, good energy transfer for light to moderate blows, and resistance to chipping or mushrooming of the workpiece.

They are generally less durable than metal hammers and may crack, deform, or wear with heavy use; care should be taken not to expose them to high impact or high heat, and damaged mallets should be replaced.
