Krüptovaluutasid

Krüptovaluutasid is the Estonian word for cryptocurrencies. Cryptocurrencies are digital or virtual currencies that are secured by cryptography, making them nearly impossible to counterfeit or double-spend. Many cryptocurrencies are decentralized networks based on blockchain technology—a distributed ledger enforced by a disparate network of computers. A defining feature of cryptocurrencies is that they are generally not issued by any central authority, rendering them theoretically immune to government interference or manipulation.

The first and most well-known cryptocurrency is Bitcoin, which was created in 2009. Since then, thousands of other cryptocurrencies, often referred to as altcoins, have been developed. These include Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin, and many others, each with its own unique features and purposes.

The value of cryptocurrencies can be highly volatile, experiencing rapid price fluctuations. They are typically traded on cryptocurrency exchanges and can be used for online purchases or as an investment. The underlying technology, blockchain, has applications beyond currency, including supply chain management, voting systems, and digital identity verification. Regulatory frameworks for cryptocurrencies vary significantly across different countries, with some embracing them and others imposing strict controls or outright bans.
