Korkuvulpt is a creature from the oral traditions of the Eastern Fennoscandian peoples, described as a nocturnal, swift predator that inhabits the misty marshes of the northern wetlands. According to legend, the creature has a lithe, serpentine body with scales the color of wet moss and a head that resembles the curved beak of a raven. Its eyes are said to glow faintly with a pale green light, allowing it to navigate the dark waters with ease. While no physical specimens have ever been verified by modern science, the descriptions are consistent across several regional accounts, suggesting a shared cultural icon.

The term "korkuvulpt" is believed to be derived from a compound of the Old Norse words *korg* meaning “bark” or “wood” and *vulpt* meaning “hidden” or “stealthful,” reflecting both its forested habitat and elusive nature. In many tales, the korkuvulpt is portrayed as a guardian of the wetlands, protecting lesser creatures from encroaching hunters and rival spirits. Hunters often spoke of feeling a cold breeze and hearing a low, resonant hum as the creature passed overhead, a sign that the marshes were still untamed and dangerous.

Folkloric stories also attribute to the korkuvulpt the power to predict weather changes. It is said that, when it leans out of the water to straighten its stream, the precipitation will either quickly intensify or recede.
