"Kopiere" is a German verb meaning "to copy" or "to duplicate." It originates from the Middle High German word kūeren, which itself derives from the Proto-Germanic root kūjaną, related to the idea of making something anew or reproducing it. The term is commonly used in everyday German to describe the act of replicating text, documents, or other digital or physical materials.

In digital contexts, kopiere is frequently employed in relation to software and file management. For example, users may kopieren (copy) a file from one location to another before pasting (einfügen) it into a new destination. The process often involves selecting text or a file, right-clicking, and choosing the Kopieren option in the context menu, particularly in Windows-based systems where German is the operating language. In macOS or Linux with German localization, similar commands may appear as Kopieren or Kopie erstellen.
