In Finland, the cooperative movement has a long history, with notable examples including consumer cooperatives like SOK (Suomen Osuuskauppojen Keskusliitto) and housing cooperatives that facilitate affordable living solutions. The cooperative model is governed by international guidelines outlined by the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), which promotes seven core principles: voluntary and open membership, democratic member control, member economic participation, autonomy and independence, education and training, cooperation among cooperatives, and concern for community.
