Konteksto

Konteksto is a term used in several languages to denote the surrounding conditions and factors that influence the interpretation, relevance, or functioning of a statement, action, text, or system. In linguistics, context includes co-text (the adjacent text), the speaker’s intent, and the situational setting. In philosophy and logic, context can affect truth conditions, relevance, and the applicability of a claim. In computing, context-aware systems adjust behavior based on signals such as location, time, and user activity.

Etymology and variants: The concept derives from Latin contextus, meaning woven together, and has spread into many European languages with local spellings. In some languages the term appears as konteksto, konteksti, or kontekst, reflecting phonetic and orthographic adaptations of the same root.

Usage and importance: Context helps prevent ambiguity by providing background that clarifies meaning. It is a central concept across disciplines, guiding analysis in journalism, law, education, and cognitive science. In information technology and artificial intelligence, contextual data improves the accuracy of interpretation, search results, and personalized recommendations.

Types of context: Linguistic or textual context (co-text and discourse context); Situational or social context (environment, culture, norms); Historical or background context (preceding events and developments that shape current understanding).

Examples: The sentence "She said she would come" depends on context for who "she" is and when she would come. A mobile app might show different content if the user is at home versus traveling, using location and time as context.
