Konstruktionsstücklisten, often abbreviated as KSB or sometimes called engineering Bill of Materials (eBOM), represent a structured hierarchical list of all the components and sub-assemblies required to design and manufacture a product. Unlike a manufacturing Bill of Materials (mBOM) which focuses on the physical assembly, a KSB details the design intent and the relationships between parts as envisioned by the engineering department. It serves as the foundation for the entire product development process, from initial concept to detailed design and documentation.

A typical KSB includes information such as part numbers, part names, quantities, units of measure, and often links to design drawings or CAD models. The hierarchical structure allows for a clear breakdown of complex products into manageable units, facilitating easier understanding and modification. It also helps in identifying common parts across different designs and managing design changes effectively. Engineers use KSBs to ensure all necessary components are accounted for, to perform design analyses, and to communicate design requirements to other departments.

The creation and maintenance of KSBs are crucial for efficient product development. Any discrepancies or errors in the KSB can lead to manufacturing problems, increased costs, and delays. Therefore, robust PDM (Product Data Management) or PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems are commonly employed to manage and control KSBs, ensuring data integrity and version control throughout the product lifecycle. The KSB is a critical document for collaboration between engineering and other functions.
