Koncentrációkat, also known as concentration camps, were established during the 20th century, primarily during the Holocaust, to detain and systematically oppress large groups of people. These camps were typically located in remote areas, far from civilian populations, to minimize resistance and escape attempts. The primary purpose of these camps was to exploit labor, suppress resistance, and ultimately, eliminate targeted groups, often based on race, religion, or political beliefs.

The most notorious concentration camps were established by Nazi Germany during World War II. The largest and most infamous of these was Auschwitz-Birkenau, located in occupied Poland. Other significant camps included Dachau, Buchenwald, and Bergen-Belsen. These camps were operated by the SS (Schutzstaffel), the elite guard corps of the Nazi Party, under the supervision of Adolf Eichmann, the "architect of the Final Solution."

The conditions within these camps were brutal and inhumane. Prisoners were subjected to forced labor, starvation, disease, and systematic killings. The gas chambers at Auschwitz-Birkenau, for example, were used to murder an estimated 1.1 million people, the majority of whom were Jews. The survivors of these camps often bore the physical and psychological scars of their experiences for the rest of their lives.

The establishment and operation of concentration camps are widely recognized as war crimes and crimes against humanity. The United Nations and various international organizations have documented the atrocities committed within these camps, and the legacy of concentration camps continues to be a subject of ongoing research and remembrance.
