Kompaktspänningsprov, often translated as compact tension test, is a mechanical testing method used to determine fracture toughness properties of materials. It is a variation of the standard tensile test and is particularly suited for testing brittle or semi-brittle materials, as well as materials at elevated temperatures. The test specimen is typically a notched rectangular bar with a precise geometry. A crack starter is introduced at the root of the notch, usually by machining or pre-cracking. The specimen is then loaded in tension using a testing machine, and the load is increased until the crack propagates.

The key measurement in a kompaktspänningsprov is the load at which the crack begins to grow unstably. From this load, along with the specimen's dimensions and material properties, various fracture toughness parameters can be calculated.
