Kolonya

Kolonya is a type of scented water, similar to eau de cologne, that is a traditional part of Turkish culture. It is typically made from alcohol, essential oils, and water. The scent of kolonya can vary widely, with common fragrances including lemon, lavender, rose, jasmine, and citrus.

The primary use of kolonya is as a disinfectant and a refreshing agent. It is frequently offered to guests upon arrival at homes and in businesses, particularly in traditionally conservative settings like barbershops and beauty salons. The act of offering kolonya is a gesture of hospitality and cleanliness. People often pour a small amount onto their hands to clean and freshen them, and sometimes dab a little on their wrists or neck.

Kolonya also plays a significant role in Turkish celebrations and religious holidays. During visits to family and friends, especially during Bayram (Eid holidays), it is customary to offer and use kolonya.
