Knoglesvækkelse

Knoglesvækkelse is a Danish term that translates to bone weakening. It broadly refers to conditions that compromise the structural integrity of bones, making them more susceptible to fractures. This can occur due to a variety of underlying causes, including nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, metabolic disorders, and certain medications.

One of the most common conditions associated with knoglesvækkelse is osteoporosis. In osteoporosis, bone density decreases, and the quality of bone tissue deteriorates. This leads to fragile bones that can break easily, often from a minor fall or even from a simple movement like bending over. Osteoporosis is more prevalent in older adults, particularly postmenopausal women, due to changes in estrogen levels.

Other causes of bone weakening can include osteomalacia, a condition characterized by inadequate mineralization of bone, often due to vitamin D deficiency.
