Kneleddsmobilitet

Kneleddsmobilitet, or knee joint mobility, is the ability of the knee to move through its range of motion and support everyday activities such as walking and climbing stairs. Normal ROM is roughly 0 degrees of extension and 130–140 degrees of flexion. ROM is typically measured with a goniometer.

The knee is formed by the distal femur, proximal tibia, and patella, and is stabilized by ligaments, menisci, tendons, and the joint capsule. Mobility depends on healthy articular surfaces, proper patellar tracking, muscle flexibility (especially quadriceps and hamstrings), and absence of swelling. Pain or prior injury can limit motion.

Assessment includes ROM measurement, evaluation of pain and swelling, and functional tests such as bending, squatting, or stair climbing. Signs of restricted mobility include stiffness, crepitus, catching, or locking. Imaging may be used for unclear causes.

Common conditions affecting kneleddsmobilitet are osteoarthritis, meniscal tears, ACL or other ligament injuries, patellofemoral pain, and inflammatory arthritis. Postoperative stiffness is also a frequent contributor to reduced mobility.

Management emphasizes gradual restoration of ROM and strength. Interventions include ROM exercises (e.g., heel slides, knee-to-chest), quadriceps and hamstring strengthening, stretching, and, when appropriate, aquatic therapy or manual therapy. Early rehabilitation and swelling control support better recovery of knee mobility.
