Klippeløse

Klippeløse is a Danish term often used colloquially to describe a person or animal that lacks the characteristic pointed ears, or "klipper," commonly associated with certain breeds. This trait is most frequently observed in dogs, particularly those with a predisposition for erect ears, such as German Shepherds, Huskies, and other Spitz-type breeds. Instead of standing upright, the ears of a klippeløse individual may be rounded, floppy, or semi-erect.

The absence of pointed ears can be due to a variety of genetic factors. In some cases, it is a breed-specific trait or a deviation from the breed standard, which may affect show potential but generally does not impact the animal's health or temperament. In other instances, it can be a result of environmental influences during puppyhood, such as improper nutrition or injuries that affect ear cartilage development. However, in most contexts where the term "klippeløse" is used, it refers to a genetic predisposition.

While the term is primarily associated with dogs, it can occasionally be applied to other animals, such as cats or even horses, to describe a similar lack of sharply pointed ears. The opposite of klippeløse would be an animal possessing prominent, erect ears. The term is not a formal veterinary or genetic classification but rather a descriptive label used within specific communities.
