The term blends klank (sound) with sonten, a neologism used to describe tonal aggregates.

Origins and use: The concept appears in niche forums and informal writings dating from the early 2000s onward. It is not widely defined or standardized in peer-reviewed literature. In practice, practitioners describe klanksonten as a small group of core tones (often four to nine) with specific spectral qualities (low, mid, high) that are reinforced by voices, singing bowls, bells, and ambient textures. The arrangement and emphasis of these tones are said to create a stable perceptual gestalt during listening or meditation.
