The name appears to be a constructed term, often linked to kinetic or movement-related phenomena in various narratives. Some writers imply an etymology drawn from a root suggesting motion, while others treat it as a purely invented label without published linguistic history.

In most depictions, kináseit is described as a transparent to translucent mineral that displays a reversible color shift when subjected to mechanical stress, vibration, or rapid movement. The color changes are often iridescent or quasi-chromatic, with bands of color appearing along fractures. Physical properties vary widely by author: luster is typically vitreous; hardness ranges from medium to hard across different sources; crystals are described as slender prisms or tabular forms, and the mineral is usually characterized as brittle with a conchoidal fracture.
