Kierrätysnumerot, also known as recycling codes or resin identification codes, are symbols found on plastic products to indicate the type of plastic used. These numbers, ranging from 1 to 7, are typically enclosed in a triangle of chasing arrows. They are not a guarantee that a product is recyclable in all areas, but rather a way to identify the resin composition for sorting and processing purposes.

Number 1, PET or PETE (polyethylene terephthalate), is commonly used for beverage bottles and food jars. Number 2, HDPE (high-density polyethylene), is found in milk jugs, detergent bottles, and toys. Number 3, PVC (polyvinyl chloride), is used in pipes, window frames, and some packaging. Number 4, LDPE (low-density polyethylene), is often used for plastic bags, shrink wrap, and squeeze bottles. Number 5, PP (polypropylene), is found in food containers, bottle caps, and automotive parts. Number 6, PS (polystyrene), is used for disposable cups, plates, and packaging foam. Number 7, OTHER, encompasses all other plastic types, including polycarbonate and bioplastics.
