Keuken
Keuken is a room or area in a building dedicated to cooking and food preparation. In Dutch households, the term covers both traditional separate kitchens and modern open-plan configurations where the kitchen forms part of a larger living area. A typical kitchen includes work surfaces, storage cabinetry, a sink, and a range of appliances such as a stovetop or cooktop, an oven, a refrigerator, and, in many cases, a dishwasher. Ventilation is provided by an exhaust hood or vent to remove moisture and cooking odors. Surfaces are designed for durability and ease of cleaning, with countertops commonly made from laminate, stone, or composite materials, and cabinet fronts in wood, veneer, or thermofoil.
Design and layouts vary. Classic configurations include one-wall kitchens, L-shaped kitchens (L-keuken), and U-shaped kitchens (U-keuken).
