Katoodile

Katoodile is a fictional semi-aquatic predator that appears in speculative zoology and regional folklore. Described as a medium-sized creature, it purportedly bears a blend of feline and crocodilian traits, hence the name a portmanteau of cat and crocodile. The head is elongated with sharp teeth; the body is robust, with a flexible spine and limbs adapted for both ground locomotion and swimming. The skin is described as rugged and scaly, often in earth tones ranging from greenish-brown to gray.

Taxonomy and status: Because the katoodile is not recognised as a real species by any scientific body, no formal taxonomy exists. It is often treated as a member of an informal "Katodilocidae" in fictional accounts, though this varies by source.

Distribution and habitat: In fictional literature, katoodiles inhabit river deltas, swamps, and marshes of temperate to tropical basins. They are typically associated with slow-moving water and dense vegetation.

Ecology and behavior: Katoodiles are depicted as solitary and largely nocturnal ambush predators. They feed on fish, amphibians, small mammals, and birds. They are described as capable climbers and proficient swimmers, using their tails for propulsion and their claws for gripping prey or perching.

Reproduction: Accounts differ; some sources state oviparous reproduction with water-nest laying eggs; others describe short-range parental care or live birth. In many works, breeding behaviors are left intentionally vague.

Human interactions and cultural significance: The katoodile appears in folklore and modern fantasy fiction. It is often used to illustrate ambush predation and adaptation to semi-aquatic life. Since it is not real, there is no conservation status.
