Kasutusmustritest, also known as design patterns, are typical solutions to common problems in software design. They are like pre-made blueprints that a programmer can customize to solve a particular design issue in their code. Design patterns are not finished designs that can be transformed directly into code. Instead, they are descriptions or templates for how to solve a problem that can be used in many different situations.

There are three main categories of design patterns: creational, structural, and behavioral. Creational patterns deal with object creation mechanisms, trying to create objects in a manner suitable to the situation. Structural patterns deal with the composition of classes or objects into larger structures while keeping these structures flexible and efficient. Behavioral patterns are concerned with algorithms and the assignment of responsibilities between objects.

Design patterns are a powerful tool for software developers. They provide a shared vocabulary for developers to communicate about design, and they can help to improve the quality of code by providing tested, proven development paradigms. However, it's important to note that design patterns should not be applied blindly. Each pattern has its own context and trade-offs, and it's the developer's responsibility to understand these and apply the pattern appropriately.

The concept of design patterns was popularized by the book "Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software" by Erich Gamma, Richard Helm, Ralph Johnson, and John Vlissides, often referred to as the "Gang of Four" (GoF). This book cataloged 23 classic design patterns and remains a foundational text in the field of software design.
