Kanni

Kanni is a breed of sighthound originating from southern India, specifically the Tamil Nadu region. These dogs are known for their lean, muscular build, deep chest, and long legs, which are characteristic of sighthounds adapted for speed and endurance. Kanni dogs typically have a short, smooth coat that comes in various colors, most commonly fawn, black, or grey, often with white markings. Their heads are long and narrow, with erect ears and intelligent eyes.

Historically, the Kanni was used for hunting small game, such as hares and foxes, by coursing them across open terrain. They are known for their exceptional speed and keen eyesight, enabling them to spot and chase prey effectively. Beyond their hunting prowess, Kanni dogs are also valued as loyal and protective companions. They are generally described as intelligent, agile, and somewhat reserved with strangers, but affectionate and devoted to their families. Their exercise needs are high, requiring plenty of space to run and play. Due to their sighthound nature, they may have a strong prey drive. The breed is not as widely recognized internationally as some other sighthound breeds.
