Kanaz

Kanaz is a town in the western region of the fictional nation of Veridia. It is the administrative center of Kanaz District. The town lies on the Kanaz River, about 60 kilometers from the coast, and has a population of around 22,000.

Founded as a trading outpost in the early 14th century, Kanaz grew along river routes and prospered from timber and grain. It gained municipal status in 1612 and later modernized during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Geographically, the town sits in a broad river valley with warm summers and cool winters. The economy relies on textiles, timber processing, and light manufacturing, complemented by agriculture in surrounding farms, including onions and barley. Tourism centers on historical sites and riverside scenery.

Culturally, Kanaz hosts an annual autumn festival featuring crafts, music, and food stalls. The local language, Kanazi, is spoken alongside Veridian. The town preserves traditional crafts such as pottery and weaving, with museums and workshops open to visitors.

Governance is provided by a 12-person municipal council led by a mayor. The town is connected by a regional road network and bus lines; there is no railway station in Kanaz, with the nearest rail link about 22 kilometers away. Healthcare includes a district hospital.

Notable sites include the stone Arch of Kanaz Bridge, the Old Mill District, St. Helena Church, and the busy Kanaz Market, which anchors weekly fairs and fresh-food markets.
