Kaltgeformte

Kaltgeformte, in English often referred to as cold-formed parts, are metal components manufactured by forming processes conducted at or near room temperature rather than by hot forming. The term covers a range of operations such as stamping, bending, drawing, cold heading (cold forging), rolling, and roll forming that shape metal without significant heating.

Typical materials used for kaltgeformte parts include steel and stainless steel, aluminum alloys, copper alloys, and sometimes titanium. The choice of process depends on the desired geometry, tolerances, and mechanical properties. Cold forming is commonly employed to produce fasteners, brackets, connectors, tubes produced by cold drawing, and various structural or electrical components.

The main advantages of kaltgeformte parts are high dimensional accuracy, good surface finish, and near-net or net-shape production with reduced waste. Work hardening during plastic deformation often yields higher strength and stiffness without additional heat treatment. The process is generally energy-efficient and suitable for high-volume production, offering consistent repeatability and fast cycle times.

Limitations and considerations include restricted ductility for some materials after forming, which can increase the risk of cracking or residual stresses if the process is not properly controlled. Part complexity is also constrained by tooling capabilities. Quality control typically covers dimensional tolerances, surface roughness, hardness, and defect inspection, aligned with regional standards and specifications such as those from AISI, EN, or ISO, depending on the application and market.
