Kahoolawecompose
Kahoolawecompose is a hypothetical multimedia work that engages with the Hawaiian island of Kahoolawe through an integrated blend of sound, text, and imagery. Conceived as an interdisciplinary project, it explores themes of land stewardship, memory, and ecological restoration, translating historical and cultural narratives into an experiential audience experience. The project title combines the island’s name with the verb to compose, signaling an attempt to “compose” the island’s stories in sound and sight.
The work is imagined as consisting of several components: a soundscape built from field recordings gathered
Kahoolawe has a documented history as a military training site from 1941 to 1990, and subsequent restoration
