Jembellir

Jembellir is a traditional Berber musical instrument originating from the Aït Atta tribe in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco. The name "Jembellir" is derived from the Berber language, where "jembell" means "to dance" and "ir" signifies "of the mountains." This instrument is primarily used in ceremonial and festive contexts, particularly during weddings, religious celebrations, and gatherings that mark significant cultural milestones.

The Jembellir is a type of frame drum, similar to the darbuka or goblet drum, but it is distinct in its construction and sound. It is typically crafted from a hollowed-out gourd or wooden frame, covered with a tightly stretched animal skin—traditionally goat or sheep—secured with a leather strap.
