Interventionscan

Interventionscan is a proposed methodological concept in program evaluation and data governance that refers to a systematic process for identifying, cataloging, and assessing interventions within a defined context. The aim is to create a comprehensive inventory of interventions—such as policies, practices, or services—and to track their characteristics, implementation status, and outcomes through an ongoing scan of available information.

Process features include defining scope, collecting data from diverse sources, standardizing descriptors, and classifying interventions by domain, target population, and mechanism. Regular scans capture new or modified interventions, followed by analysis of effectiveness and reach, and the generation of reports to inform decision making and accountability.

Applications and benefits span public health, education, social services, humanitarian settings, and corporate change management. Interventionscan supports transparency and coordination, improves evidence-based decision making, and enables meta-analysis and benchmarking by providing a structured view of what interventions exist, where they are implemented, and what outcomes they produce.

Limitations and challenges include data quality and heterogeneity, privacy considerations, resource requirements, and the need for standardization and interoperability. Governance frameworks, data standards, and clear ownership are often necessary to ensure reliability and to mitigate bias or misclassification.

History and status: the concept is emerging and does not yet have universal standards. There are pilot initiatives in various government, research, and organizational contexts aimed at testing registry-like scanning approaches.
