Inteligjenca

Inteligjenca is the Albanian term for intelligence, defined as the capacity to learn from experience, reason, solve problems, and adapt to new situations. It applies to humans and animals and is increasingly used to describe intelligent systems, including computers and robots. Etymology: the word derives from the Latin intelligentia, from intelligere “to understand,” entering Albanian through historical contact with Romance languages. In modern Albanian, forms include inteligjencë (the abstract quality) and inteligjent (adjective).

Types and theories: Several theoretical approaches exist. Some scholars emphasize a general intelligence factor (g) that underlies many cognitive tasks, while others advocate a view of multiple intelligences, proposing distinct domains such as linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalistic. Emotional intelligence has also been discussed as a related but separate dimension, focusing on awareness and management of emotions in oneself and others.

Measurement and critique: Intelligence is commonly assessed with standardized tests designed to predict academic and occupational performance. Critics argue that such tests may be culturally biased, context-dependent, and unable to capture creativity, motivation, practical problem-solving, or social cognition. Cultural, educational, and socioeconomic factors can influence test outcomes, leading to ongoing debates about validity and fairness.

Artificial intelligence: Inteligjenca artificiale refers to systems and machines that perform tasks requiring intelligence, often through algorithms, machine learning, and data analytics. This field encompasses natural language processing, computer vision, planning, and autonomous decision-making, and it intersects with ethics, policy, and social impact.
