Instrumentaalvõimendid, commonly known as instrument amplifiers, are electronic devices designed to increase the amplitude of an electrical signal from an instrument, such as an electric guitar, bass guitar, or keyboard, to a level that can drive a loudspeaker. This process is essential for making the instrument's sound audible and at a desired volume.

The core components of an instrument amplifier typically include a preamplifier stage and a power amplifier stage. The preamplifier receives the relatively weak signal from the instrument and shapes its tone using controls like volume, bass, mid, and treble. It also often incorporates gain or overdrive circuits to intentionally distort the signal for tonal effects. The power amplifier then takes the processed signal from the preamplifier and boosts it significantly, providing enough power to move the speaker cone and produce sound.

Amplifiers come in various forms, including combo amplifiers, which integrate the amplifier circuitry and speakers into a single unit, and head-and-cabinet configurations, where the amplifier head is separate from the speaker cabinet. Solid-state amplifiers, utilizing transistors, and tube amplifiers, using vacuum tubes, are the two primary technologies, each offering distinct sonic characteristics. Tube amplifiers are often favored for their warm, natural overdrive and dynamic response, while solid-state amplifiers are generally more reliable, affordable, and consistent. Digital modeling amplifiers simulate the sounds of various classic amplifiers and effects using digital signal processing.
