Insinöörimuovit, also known as engineering plastics, are a class of polymers that possess superior mechanical and thermal properties compared to commodity plastics. These materials are designed for more demanding applications where higher strength, stiffness, temperature resistance, and chemical stability are required. Common examples of engineering plastics include polyamides (nylon), polycarbonates, polyacetals (POM), and polyesters such as PET and PBT.

While generally more expensive than commodity plastics, the enhanced performance and extended service life of components made from engineering plastics often justify the higher material cost. They are a critical category of materials bridging the gap between conventional plastics and metals, offering a versatile solution for complex engineering challenges.
