Infrastructureclimate is an interdisciplinary field that examines how climate risks and climate change interact with infrastructure systems and how these systems can be designed, operated, and governed to be resilient and low-carbon. The term is not widely standardized and is used in various contexts to describe this intersection, encompassing the integration of climate science into infrastructure planning, engineering, finance, and policy with the aim of reducing exposure to extreme weather, heat, drought, flooding, and sea-level rise while supporting mitigation goals.

Key elements include climate risk assessment and scenario planning, resilience-based design, adaptation and retrofit strategies, and measures to lower greenhouse gas emissions in construction and operation. It relies on climate projections, downscaled models, hazard maps, and probabilistic risk analysis, and often uses decision frameworks that address deep uncertainty and life-cycle costs.

Sectors such as transportation, energy, water, and buildings are commonly involved, with examples like flood-protected roads and flood-resilient bridges, climate-resilient power grids, water supply continuity under drought, and cooling-efficient buildings. Nature-based solutions, modular infrastructure, and smart monitoring are typical approaches.

Governance aspects include standards, regulatory finance, risk disclosure, and alignment with national adaptation plans and sustainable development goals. Challenges include data gaps, long asset lifespans, high upfront costs, equity considerations, and politically contested risk perception. The field emphasizes collaboration among engineers, planners, climate scientists, economists, and communities.
